Hitler's Luger
We all know that this is a standing joke in the collector community, however some time ago someone did post a German Weimar Era Military Document, which records the Luger pistol, which was issued to Adolph Hitler when he was tasked with spying on the then nascent Nazi Party. Thus, "Hitler's Luger".
Does anybody remember this? The pistol was an Erfurt, if memory serves and the serial number was on the receipt signed by Hitler. I don't recall if a suffix was included, but having the number handy might yield a lucky find some day. |

Doug,
I do remember, IIRC, a post that had a pic of the document. I remember noticing how Hitler's signature changed between then and his "glory days". An interesting question is what would have happened if he had not had that particular assignment.

I remember that post being discussed at considerable length - the document was interesting. Since the referenced pistol - a nice reliable 1940 "42" - is in my possession, I need that document! The story of how this gun was issued to Hitler via a time machine would make an excellent sci-fi book!

Here is part of what is written:
"So, even in the revolutionary year 1919, the German bureaucracy was working fine. They issued a gun permit to Hitler, to legalize his carrying a gun at the 12th of Sept. 1919. All the historical data of this document seem to be correct; the printed form of the “Waffenschein” (gun permit) was used in Bavaria/Germany these days. It was common practice to stamp “überstempeln” existing forms to adapt to the actual situation. Jewgenij even stated the exact file of the document at the РTВА archive in Moscow. I recheck in the net and in the history forum, the file no. is plausible. I compared Hitlers signature to others, dated 1918 to 1920, (found quite a few in the net). Although not being forensic handwriting expert nor graphologist the signature seems authentic. Leaves one question open: Where is the Luger Pistol 08, Erfurt 1918, no. 6901q?" And a picture of a copy of the document. Thanks to the original poster.

As a corporal in the Great War wouldn't he have carried a Luger also?

Almost certainly as a dispatch runner, I would think.
