Numerich repro side plate

Question folks, any one have experience with one of these. I have a '37, S42 that has some sort of aftermarket side plate that someone tried to stamp (poorly) the numbers on. I would rather have a blank plate. My plate does work fine, just sorta looks strange. I found a matching # side plate on Jan's site, in Russia, however it was an Erfurt plate. Thanks and best to all.

Most of the repro. sideplates I've seen stuck out as ugly and marginally functional. I'd prefer a misnumbered original plate instead. Forum member DZ usually has quite a few, as will LugerDoc. As I recall the 1937 gun will have numbers on both the outside and inside, and chances of matching all numbers are virtually nil.

Most of the repros were castings, rather than machined forgings. As such, they had soft edges and a sandy surface look to them. Most were oversized and it was not unusual to spend hours working them down to fit and function. I would also prefer a mismatch original to a reproduction.

Most, if not all, are marked -numbered- on the bottom, so they only look "unmarked" from the side.

Interchangeable- within tolerances: which is to say no, not all side plates will function correctly or even fit on any given pistol.

Thank you Gents. The one I have works, even though ugly. So I'll follow our old Submariner adage of "To save some coin, go ugly early". It works.

I can't stand "reproductions" and I often wonder why (apart from money) people buy them.

If your sideplate is aftermarket but ugly, why not try to improve it cosmetically? That shouldn't change the function, just improve the looks.

Unnumbered armour's spare side plates &/or commerical ones ones numbered on the lower edge are now almost impossible to find, as luger restorers have perfered these for years. Tom

I just received a $62 side plate from Numrich and in a test it fit and worked in the three lugers tried. One was snug under the locking bolt. It will go on a respectable shooter Luger after the side plate is refinished and cold blued. Overall it is better than I expected and is fine if you don't mind a little work. The original was badly damaged, although workable but hard on the eye. I agree generally with the other commentators.
