Default Were Hold Opens Blued?

Were hold opens typically blued or did they have another type of finish applied?

Hi Paul, It all depends. If you're asking about Imperial Lugers, then no, they were heat treated and you typically see a rainbow of colors. Mauser Lugers on the other hand, had blued hold-opens.

Mauser byf has an excellent set of pictures on the internet:

The hold-open was blued on picture. But hold-open spring is white. Also, please note the top face of the hold open was polished white. See picture #159, #160, and #161.
