I recently inherited a 1936 Krieghoff Suhl P08 from my grandfather who took it off a dead German and kept it in a drawer for seventy years. Thus it hasn't been altered (nor maintained) in any way. I'm interested in discerning the quality as well as how much I might expect to sell it for if I decide to part with it. The piece has all matching serial numbers including the mag and has a holster as well (holster appears to have the strap replaced though). As someone with no experience rating guns I'm not sure what the quality is like but it seems to be in decent condition, although I've resisted the temptation to fire it. Any info/education is much appreciated. More pics available if desired.

Trevor a Fine Piece!! I own a 1937 duel mag. The early pieces are great and finest quality. I believe they were part of a 10K run! Ordered for the German airforce by old Herman. The marked takedown key are some of the rarest! I would look for a correct Kriegoff holster that is all black including the thread with a proof mark on the inside. A real pretty with a familial anchestry~ Gramps had good taste! Great prewar piece that will only increase in value~ Ps Don't fire it` Find a less value shooter~~ Eric

Trevor,
You have inherited what just about every Luger collector dreams about. A 1936 Krieghoff in the condition of the one you have is worth somewhere around $4000.00 - $6,000.00 depending on hands on examination. Add a matched mag with the proper tool and holster, you can bump it up to near $7000.00 or $8,000.00 in the right auction. Just clean it with a soft oil cloth and keep it out of the holster. Congratulations, Mike |

Recent auction sales of comparable HK Lugers have ranged between $4,000 and $14,000. I recommend registering at icollector.com and invaluable.com and searching their databases for more information.

In ref to the capture, it only adds value if you have capture paperwork, i.e, sme proof it was brought home, most capture paperwork has disappeared, got lost or damaged or is fake.
I would think the $6500-$7500 if all matching is correct. Is there an extra mag in the pouch or tool? Unless you need the money, or have no interest in guns, it might be best to keep it.... Ed

Trevor, welcome to the forum. First, I'm sorry for the loss of your grandfather, and thankful for his service.
You have a rare and sought after variation of luger in what appears to be very high condition. This is a collectible firearm. With the correct holster, matched magazine and tool it is even more rare. Absolutely do not fire it. A broken part would considerably affect it's value. As mentioned, don't store it in the holster, and don't do anything that would alter it or it's condition. Much of it's high value is in it's original condition.

You might want to inquire as to which is the scarcer chamber date for a 1936 made KH: S code is most common, then 1936, finally just 36. TH
