1916 Carbine

Got this Luger at a gunshow several years back. Shot it once (shoots very nicely BTW), and put it away in my safe until just a few days ago. I posted some pics on our private NW gun board just to irritate a (friendly) C&R guy and was told this was a carbine and that it was a nice one. I looked around and didn't find much info about carbines but was referred here for more info so here I am. This type of gun- adulterated original- is not my cup of tea. It's 9mm

As far as I can see, all numbers match. Like I said it shoots well. Finish is good. I took off the front HG and there are no numbers anywhere under there.

If you need more pics to identify or are just curious, let me know I can take decent closeups.

First, congratulations on a beautiful firearm.

This was most likely a gunsmith project, and not produced by the DWM factory as you see it.

That said, it's very well done.

I have had two 16 inch long barrel luger / carbines and they did not shoot really well / these were those 16 inch long barrel, carbine kits... - sold one as parts and sold the other around $1500? Also have had a long barrel in 30 caliber and it sold for around the same.

Is it 9mm?

This looks very nice, I would guess most retailers would want $2500? Usually you can't get that much, but you might be able to?

Since its dated and military marked, its obviously something put together, by someone, perhaps by a company after WW1....

What is the brand on the right side of the rear sight? That may help date its manufacture.
Alan, where does this one stand on the SBR restrictions?

Is there a compensator attached to the front of the frame under the fore end? Looks like something attaches the fore end with 2 screws?

Have you had the forearm off??? I would be interested to see how it is attached. I was reading Sturgess & Goetz last night and there was an X-ray of a carbine attaching lug which clearly showed a screw holding the carbine forearm lug in position for brazing, the head then milled/ground off...(pg 871)...

The barrel is too short to attach a stock, it makes it a short barreled rifle unless you can use the C&R regs to substantiate that it is legal...

I notice that the wording has changed in the BATF regs; this section might be what you could use

This Carbine would NOT be legal to add the stock to since it is a modern rendering that is not historically accurate. Unless it is listed in the C&R book specifically by serial number, (i.e., an individual ATF waiver), this gun is an unregistered SBR.
