How are custom made guns serialed numbered. I found this interesting regarding Mike Krause. Can he choose any serial number. Are serial number controlled my state or federal law?Do all firearms have to have their own? Tks~~Eric http://archives.gunsandammo.com/content/return-45-luger

ALL firearms manufactured today must have a serial number applied to the component ATF decides is the "firearm" for any particular model. Specs. indicate the number must be at least 1/16th. inch high and at least .003 inch deep.
A manufacturer can apply any serial number they want to a NEW firearm, as long as it is entered into the "bound book" they report to ATF. Many companies will do a custom serial number for customers, for a fee. Now removing an old serial number in order to apply a custom serial number is entirely a different matter. |

Yes he can as he is a federal licensed firearms manufacturer...just the same as Kimber, Colt, Remington, etc.
