Newbie here. DWM commercial .30 fails to strip rounds from mag. Have tried three mags with same issue. Could recoil spring be weak?

Does the pistol strip a round by hand cycling?

Assuming this happens when firing..what ammo are you using?

Does the holdopen work on one round fired?

What 3 mags? All period or modern? Wood base, alum or plastic? Mec Gar or?

Limp wristing can cause failure to cycle..were you holding the pistol firmly or loosely?

Has the pistol been cleaned and oiled properly?

Yes, hand cycling feeds
Ammo is Fiocci
Have not tried with one round
Two mags are new meg-car, one is older aluminum base
Steady hold
Very clean and oiled.

As I recall, isn't Fiochi a bit underpowered?

I agree with David..I would try some different ammo before doing anything else. If another type does the same you can go from there. That would be my first approach. Everything else you are doing sounds really good..

I would try one round to see if the holdopen is working. If the pistol holds open it's going back far enough to strip another round.

Just to be on the safe side check for pierced primers.
It can happen with fiocchis. And it's never good.

It's possible that someone has replaced the recoil spring with one that is powered to handle 9mm ammo. IIRC, there are fewer coils on the ones used with .30 Luger.

If you get a chance, carefully remove the grips (be quite careful about not breaking the left one up at the safety lever), and count the coils on the spring...

As far as I know, in USA, there are only two(2) types of 30 Luger available(commercial ammo) (1) Fiocchi (2) Winchester. The muzzle velocities are almost identical to each other. Most folks with 30 Lugers have no problems with Fiocchi ammo. Are your Fiocchi cartridges FMJ, or JSP? My 30 lugers do not like the JSP bullet in the Fiocchi ammo.

Your Luger may well be "short stroking" due to a mainspring that is too stout for the ammo. Your mags do not appear to be the problem. Luger is clean and lubed, so that is ruled out. What does the feed ramps on the frame and barrel look like....smooth, or rough with horizontal machining marks?

My first choice would be to purchase the two(2) Luger mainspring weights that Wolff Springs offers and give them a try. They are inexpensive, and could be your problem

Hi,

Please tell us a little more about your problem.

Do you have some binding when trying to lower the toggle on a full magazine of cartridges?

Do the binding cartridges make it half way up the ramp and then jam between the toggle and the ramp?

Again, will one singly feed round function your hold-open device properly?

Might be the mag spring. Need a good strong one to overcome the moment of inertia of a full mag of cartridges in time to elevate the round for the pick up. If you can load the mag without a loading tool I would suspect the mag spring.
