Was offered a couple of lugers yesterday. First was a 4" bbl. 9mm DWM w/blank chamber and 4 digit serial with "t" suffix, numbered in commercial style. Unit marked L MG 266 (as best I remember) on lower front grip frame and had a sear safety. Was also marked E/Waa66 on right of receiver, had matching holster (holster was cut down somewhat) with tool but can't remember looking at the mag. Condition was 80% with almost no straw and asking $850 for all.
Other was a 1900 American Eagle with serial 5613 (I think) and marked Germany on frame below serial. Has a broken mag release button spring (can these be found?), mag was nickeled with plain wood bottom. Condition was 92% with nice straw and asking $1800. All numbers observed matched on guns. Thanks, dobk |

Great descriptive information! Makes identification easier than usual. The first luger you describe sounds like what J Still calls a 29 DWM which might date it to 1931-32 in the transition period when Mauser was getting into the luger manufacturing business. The grip strap suggests it was for the Landespolizei (rural police) around Magdeburg (Mg) and was inventory gun number 266. Magdeburg guns are often mistaken for machine gun company pistols. It is a police pistol. Most are well-worn, high grade examples being very hard to locate. With a L.Mg.266 marked holster and tool, $850 is not bad but because 20's guns are not very popular (the 29 DWM that is popular is the one with a blank toggle) you should try for a price in the $600's. That would be achievable here in Colorado.
I will let someone else comment on the 1900. Dave |
