OK, it's only a shooter

Hello, newbie here from "The People's Republic of NY". This is my first post and I need a little guidance. I recently acquired a small firearms collection. It was one of those "all, or none deals". There were a couple of pieces that I really wanted, so they made the less desirable items tolerable. One of the pieces is a reblued Luger. I have been looking through this forum's postings so I know: yuck, garbage, ruined, too bad, only a shooter, etc. My question is "What do I do with it?". It doesn't fit in my collection and I'm not interested in shooting it (I have other pistols that I'd rather shoot). So, are the parts of any value? Although it won't be original, is there someplace where I can get it refurbished (and should I do so)? Do I just use it as fodder for my next trade/purchase? Any help you experienced "Luger people" can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Dang nice looking shooter! Hard to tell bluing from photo's but if it's been reblued..someone did a great job. It's not been buffed hard.

All the visible parts seem to match and if reblued, as Jerry pointed out, it's a pretty nice job! If you have someone from the site close by, have them look at it.

This is a nice gun.

I think its been 'dipped' rather than reblued

What do you collect? I am always looking for shooters for my gun show table.

What is "dipped"? I'm a 1911 guy.

dipped is usually thought of as a russian gun, captured during WW2, but sold in the 1980's, they were literally dipped in a solution.

Since the action of rebluing requires it to be cleaned of all finish and then rusted, carded (taking off the 'rust') and this occurs several times before it gets the normal blued look, thus the comments about, if reblued it was done very well.

I have a Russian dipped gun and it is more black than blue. Also, there is no luster to the finish,it is a flat matte with no shine.

I'm in the Albany area. As you have probably been able to surmise, I'm not a Luger person. If you're available and willing, I'd really like having someone who knows Lugers take a look at mine. Naturally, I'd come to you. Thanks.

Again, This is a nice gun that would fool most "gun show" experts. The only immediate flag is the blued safety bar, which can be restored back to bare metal in about three seconds, once removed from the frame. The German badge can also be removed from the grips and the grips restored by Hugh, if desired. (The badge does not appear inletted into the wood. If it is just a pin holding the badge on, as I suspect, I would just remove the badge and leave the small hole alone. If authentic, the German badge could net you another $50-$70, if sold separately).

This is a high end shooter, IMHO.

We lived in Guilderland a couple of miles from SUNY for 10 years during the 80's.

Albany is a nice area.
