Default My 1916 issue

My new 1916 Luger. I received it as a gift a week ago.

It appears to be in generally good condition. I just need to give it a good cleaning and it should shine.

The story behind it is apparently my buddy's uncle was in the 101st Airborne and was one of the first guys into the Eagle's Nest and that is where he picked it up.

On a related topic does anyone know what the word is printed below the Kaiser's crown? It appears to say Erfurt. Anyone know what that means? Or is it just referring to the German city? Perhaps where it was produced?

Erfurt is the German Goverment Arsenal that produced the pistol for the German army during World War 1.
A very nice gift, but take the Eagle's Nest story with a grain of salt.

My dad was 506th PIR.
We used to have pics of him and his buds hanging around there.
They had scrounged a lot of Adolph's booze and tossed the empties out the famous big windows.
Pics of that, as well.
Unfortunately time has claimed them.
Stories are just that, though-some are true.
