Magazine stuck in Luger

Hi all! First time poster here.

I recently received a 1916 issue p-08 Luger as a gift. It is in good working order and was last fired a year or two ago.

I purchased 2 reproduction magazines for it. After loading the reproduction magazine into the Luger it refused to be released. The magazine release is not do anything, it is capable of being depressed but the magazine won't budge. I did not have the issue at all with the original magazine.

Any tips on how to dislodge the stuck magazine?

Pull the toggles back and lock in place. Take a properly sized stick..you may have to cut it but a yardstick may do it. Put the stick on top of the follower..push down untill the spring compresses and tap/push it some. If it is just tension holding in the mag it should respond immediately. It might take 2 people to do this..you will have to push in on the mag release at the same time unless you remove it beforehand.

Just out of curiosity..what is the maker of the reproduction magazine that's stuck?

Approx how much do I have to compress the spring? Does it have to be nearly completely compressed or just an inch or so?

Welcome to the forum

He means, just push on it, until it is forced out / if you try with something from the base, you could hurt the basea lot easier

Vincent..Like Ed says..push a stick into the mag..it may pop out before the spring bottoms out but if it doesn't.. then you have a stable rock bottom place to push. The only other alternative I can think of is to fold some cloth over the magazine pull and lock on gently with some locking pliers and pull.

While pushing down with the stick/ruler, make sure you are pressing the magazine release in all the way...

It's best to unload the magazine before pushing the follower down...

I suppose it is possible for the mag button to come loose and jam things up...There's nothing else that sticks out/in to jam the mag (if release is pressed in)...

You could always try pressing the mag release in while prying down on a base knob with a small screwdriver...

Thanks all! It worked. There is something wrong with the mags I ordered for it. They appear to be slightly too big with the gun. Both of them are very stiff going in. Guess I'm returning these ones.

Sounds like they may be the slightly oversized ones made for the Mitchell Luger...

Someone else posted recently about buying these at a low price, perhaps surplus, online...

Not sure of the make. I bought them on ebay. There doesn't appear to be any markings on them. They're definitely oversized. I'm going to send them back.

Anyone have any suggestions on where to get good reproduction magazines?

Buy MecGar magazines. They seem to work perfectly in most, if not all, Lugers.

I had a similar experience with Stoeger OEM mags that i purchased from CDNN. I purchased 3 of them (1) one was perfect and went in and out without problems. (2) Second was slightly snug, but a little bit of work with some 320grit followed by 600grit...no problems. (3) Third was really oversize. Once I figured out exactly where the problems were, I used a bit of vice squeezing, and some file work, followed by the 600 grit. Now all three mags go in and out as they should, and function perfectly.

It appears as though quality control was a bit lax on Stoeger OEM mags.....perhaps that is why they were so reasonably priced.

I would allso like to welcome you to the forum , Mec Gar mags allways seem to be trouble free as well as triple k mags. I have used both with out any problems.
