Default 1941 Luger Info - First Purchase

Hey guys,

Thinking about purchasing this Luger but need more info on it. Site is reputable, and says it is a Mauser-Werke P08 9 MM caliber byf code pistol. 1941 production, serial number 3640. Matching serial numbers including one matching magazine. The bore is very good with some light frosting. 98% Blue. It comes with a 1939 dated holster, Eagle 655 proofed tool and WW II capture papers.

Seller is asking $2900 for it. The proofs seem to be there and it all seems to add up to authentic, but just wanted your opinions to see if it was a good deal. Photo below.

Do you think its a good deal?

You say its a reputable dealer, so?

You have luger books and study them, so you know what you're looking for?

Corey,

I think that the best advice sums up to be careful if you don't know for sure what you're doing. $3000 is a lot of money.

The photos (as far as I can see) are of the described Luger. But... do all the parts match? Is the matching magazine numbered or a black plastic base unnumbered magazine (which would also be correct)? Is the holster authentic or a reproduction? It's hard to verify these things without personally examining the pistol, and studying the background on these things.

I think that the price is higher than I would pay for this rig if all rightous... Especially if it's a black plastic (un-numbered base) magazine.

Is everything about it right? I certainly can't tell.

So... you're looking at what might be high retail pricing on a Luger rig that the dealer will stand behind? That means you're trusting them. May be fine... but have you (or someone you've known) done business and resolved problems with them.

If you're putting money into this for investment, it will probably take some time before you could re-sell it at the quoted price.

That was my thought, too. Even with the capture paperwork I thought the price was too high. Thanks for the input.

The financial value of the capture paperwork isn't much. Perhaps $50-$75 for many collectors... Of course, it's history and (if genuine) provenance is part of the experience associated with the pistol.
