Today, I purchased a unit marked 1918 DWM serial number 5755d, on the Rock Island Auction. The mark looks like this: S.D.IV.3.52.R. Can anyone shed any light on the meaning of this unit mark. There is no sear safety on the Luger; however the magazine is an aluminum bottom mag. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks, Mike |

Hello Mike,
According to Don Maus in HWIS pages 111-112, this marking is from Schupo command S.D.IV of the Düsseldorf district. The “R” would stand for Revierpolizei (a patrol unit). Eventually the 3rd reviere, with weapon nr. 52. – Nice acquisition, congratulations. Bruno |
