This is my 1944 BYF 98K. All matching, non import, capture screws intact. Unce brought it back from WWII.

I still shoot it using my hand loads:

Nice assemblage of acoutrements, Randall! The gravity knives are especially hard to find. Just as an FYI, the canteen is a post war Swedish.

Thanks for the info about the canteen - now if someone would tell me what kind of holster that is -

Her's a couple of better photos of the gravity knife -its never been sharpened. My uncle got it in Italy.

I believe the holster is a Post War P.38 police holster. Nice 98!!

I think the holster is for a postwar Star B/Astra 600.

I've owned a couple of 98K's, but have never heard the term 'capture screws' (I live in a closet and have no life)...What are capture screws???

small lock screws for the two larger scwers holding the gun together....on the bottom of floor plate..........called lock screws

Mauser K.98 You are lucky to have the sling and cleaning rod still, I have been looking for rods and slings for my k.98's but they are extremely pricey.

Just this AM picked up a complete, with grease, 1939 Mundols cleaning kit.....I remember when I bought my first K98 in the mid 50's, these kits I thhink were running about .95 cents.....but not this morning.

anywhere in the range of $50-$75

Very nice K98, I've always been a fan of them since it was one of the first centerfire rifles I shot back about age 6-7. Currently have 3 of them, to include a matching byf 44 too.

When they began importing the boatloads of Russian reworks, most all were missing the lock screws. Apparently Ivan considerd them inconsequencial.

A hue and cry went up from the new generation. of Mauser collectors.

Some one responded to the situation by supplying the screws and renaming them "capture screws."

Not a brillant day in firearms historical events.
