Newbie with line on his first Luger - Advice Needed
I ran into a guy at a gunshow today who was walking around looking to sell his Luger. Now I'll be the first to admit that I don't know enough about these to even start talking about them. It was a 1917 DWM with holster. All numbers matched but the side plate, holster and rear toggle piece. The magazine was matching. The finish was original and in very nice condition (no pitting). The holster was missing the tool. The wood grips were in very nice condition with no cracks or chips and good checkering. I think he was looking for $800. Without seeing pictures, is this something I should have walked him over to the ATM with me? I only had $500 with me, but he took my phone number and is going to call me if it doesn't sell at the show.
Should I expect a call and am I an idiot for letting this one go? Comments welcome. Thanks, Lee |

Lee,
$800 is high for a mismatch, unless the holster is desirable. I would think $600-$700 for everything. |

Thanks... That's probably the vendor he was talking to didn't buy it. If he calls I may start at $600 and go from there.

Depends on what the holster is. If it is collectible then you are paying $550 to $600 for the luger. This puts it in the area of a shooter. If you are after a collectible luger this isn't the one. Bill

Thanks, since this would be my first one I'm leaning more towards a shooter than a collectible. The holster didn't look correct agewise for the pistol, it had a mismatched stamp on it and some taller (3/4" tall) stamping marks on the rear righthand side. I only looked at everything for just a few minutes so I didn't get all the details.
