Hi new guy with 1906 American Eagle

Hi

I have a 1906 American Eagle Luger that I picked up from a collection several years ago and I am looking for some information on it. What do you look for to make sure it is an all matching example? Here are some pictures.

Numbered parts are; full serial#- frame, barrel. Last two digits of S#- receiver, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, grip safety, breechblock, center toggle, rear toggle.

The front sight is a period replacement which is much easier to see.
I think that the takedown lever was force matched. The numbers look engraved, and are larger than the other correctly stamped numbers.

That engraved 17 inder the front toggle link bugs me, and also was it common to stamp the numbers on the lug under the barrel?

I'm confused. Are you gentlemen indicating that the forward toggle link and recoil lug should not be numbered, or that they are numbered incorrectly. or...?

i think they're saying the 17 on the front toggle underside is engraved not stamped...i don't think so, looks ok

Ok I am a little confused. This 1906 AE has all the pieces marked that MFC stated should be marked earlier in this tread. The only exception is the handgrips? All markings seem to have the large font except for the sideplate. Some of the markings seem to be lightly struck as in the right handgrip, breech block and the grip safety. As far as the take down lever in person it looks just like the other large font markings. I was able to zoom in and the 1 is kind of funny but it is on the edge of the circumference of the piece. I have tried but am not able to save the zoomed in view. I used to be able to do this but my hard drive on my computer was recently wiped and I do not remember what photo softwere I had that I was able to do that with. I will try to get some better zoomed in pictures but I have a crappy camera so do not know if it will work very well. Does anyone else have pictures of all these marked pieces on a 1906 AE that they could post for a comparison?

Nukem is correct. The 17 etched in the lower side seems odd. And for those of you with a 1906 in front of you, does yours have a number stamp on the lug beneath the barrel?
Overall I like the gun, it has a very genuine look to it. However all of those numbers smell of overkill. Or are worthy of discussion, which may be a better way to put it.

Magnified, you can see that the toggle marking is stamped, not engraved or etched. I have a 1906 BUG proofed AE and it is marked just as this one is. Several variations of Lugers, particularly early models, have the two or three digits of the serial number stamped on the receiver recoil lug. The number font on this gun is correct. A few of the numbers appear a bit large, but it may be due to them being stamped rather deeply which will make the numbers larger. If I have any criticism at all, it would be with this apparent large number issue. But on the whole the gun is correct and I think it is genuine.

These pictures were edited using photobucket image tool. I cropped the 17 as close as possible then enlarged 400% (200% for Frame and Barrel) then changed to blueline. The yellow images are copy's of the blueline but changed to the inverted setting.
