The mag body is nickle plated and that makes it early IMO. The nickle plating was phased out towards the end of the Great war to plain sheet steel. I have always thought nickle acted as a lubricant..much smoother than steel. It was done away with, likely as too expensive and unnecessary.

Neat! So by great war, do you mean WWI? Also is the wood bottom something someone made, or has been modified possibly?

Derek, Yes, there was only one Great war to end all wars.
The wood you have is a hunkahunk O burnin junk. Bubba's attempt to keep the spring from popping out. I suggest contacting GT Tomek of Phoenix and getting him to install one he makes that cannot be told from an original. You will then have a fine mag once again. Welcome to the Luger Forum by the way!
