Highly unlikely that it is stainless. Maybe nickle or chrome plated. As mentioned, pics would be highly recommended.

pics r comn tomorrow, it does have 5 digits in the serial, no date on the reciever just the dwm logo but i know it is not plated its solid stainless. what i thought was weird is that this weapon has almost no wear not even the handle, but it has all the marks of a ww1 issue luger with no date i cant figure out where this thing came from! one more thing the mag is also stainless i dont know if that makes a difference but this thing looks like its never been fired my grand father said it was a navy issue luger but still not sure

Very interesting gun..

It's neither an Artillery nor a Navy Luger. It looks like a modern stainless gun someone added a brushed nickeled or chromed DWM toggle link to.
Is that a serial number I see on the takedown lever? If so, does it match the serial on the front of the gun? Are any other parts serialed?

That or it's an original commertial frame gun someone did a really nice job of rebarreling and plating on...

Could be someone just removed the finish and left it in the white. The chamfers on the DWM toggle don't look right.
Is it magnetic at all? 300 series is nonmagnetic; 400 series would have slight attraction.

It definitly isn't the Mitchell or Stoeger stainless version, the stock lug appears to be fully intact. The stainless versions had a "lug" but there were no grooves for the stock iron to actually attach. Also the toggles are knurled and checkered like an original. My guess it is either in the white or hard chrome plated.

on the right side view, you can see what appears to be a little bit of the common pitting seen on the frame under the grips...seems you can also see some strawing on the takedown and fire bluing on the springs...I'd say its just a really nice job of prepping then electroless nickle plating

the weapon is slightly magnetic, i need a date on this thing, no other parts are serialed. the only number on it is the number underneathe the barrel. sorry kind of lost on this thing!

I don't think the pic is conclusive that the lug is grooved...the owner can confirm the lug grooves (or absence)...

Recoil lever and safety bar appear to be blued...

Not an "artillery" model; no ladder rear sight; has v-notch sight on the toggle...

Only "slightly magnetic"??? That is a mystery...

Looks grooved to me, did you click on the picture and enlarge it? Another tip off that it isn't one of the Mitchell or Stoegers is that the locking bolt uses the "L" shaped spring that protrudes down through the frame in front of the trigger guard. Also note the clearance cut for said spring on the right side of the frame at the 6 o'clock position of the locking bolt. The Mitchell and Stoeger used a ball detent that was staked inside the frame.

Not true. Stainless 300 series is magnetic, less so than carbon but still magnetic. a really good QA guy that worked for me in the past could tell whether it was 304 or 316 just by how much the magnet would "pull". Wouldnt believe if it didnt see it time and time again. (I believe he used other methods and hints but he would always say it was the magnet).
