Pete's doing well. We did have a vet visit, as he was off his feed for a day. It may have been a bone fragment, but he seems to have passed it. First Dobie I've ever had that was able to get through a beef rib. Talk about jaws. but no more rib bones for him.

Other than that, he must have been a lady's dog. Anytime I have a female (human) in the house, he just has to get in their lap. It get embarrassing.....

Need some input from the experienced Imperial Guys.

When was the Bo stamping done, and why?

From my limited experience, and resources, it looks like this was a field test during 1913 and 1914, starting with the Bo 23 and ending at Bo32. Else why stamp them at all?

Hi Fred, It's my understanding that the Bo number was a propriety hardness test used by the Austrian Bohler steel company, like the Brinell test we are familiar with. The halos you have observed would seem to indicate that this test was performed on finished barrels in the DWM plant. Regards, Norm

Norme has pretty well nailed the Bö mark is a measure of hardness much like Brinell or Rockwell. So the number is independent of when the barrel was produced and only indicates the hardness of that particular barrel. I hadn't given it much thought, but judging by the halos, it looks like Böhler provided the steel and DWM produced the barrels and hardness tested them. I believe Böhler is still in business.

Does anyone have a table that correlates the Böhler numbers to a Brinnell or Rockwell hardness scale?
