Were the only finishes a blueing? I thought I'd read somewhere some commercial models were different.

I have seen some French Grey finishes but that would not appeal to the serious collectors on this web site. It is,however, a very nice color

Commercial and military Lugers were 'rust' blued with straw small parts until mid 1937, then 'salt' blued (dipped) including small parts.

Back in 1966, I saw and handled a late war Mauser production Luger with what I remember being a green/grey finish. I haven't seen one of those since! Sieger Last edited by Sieger; 06-28-2010 at 11:20 PM. |

Some Portugese contract, byf, 42, Lugers in the m block, had a "parkerized" finish.

Sieger: You have a remarkable memory to say the least! Being that you are 54, that means in 1966 you were almost 10 years old! I can't remember what I did or saw yesterday much less what happened 44 years ago. George |

Why, thank you for your complement! I'm sure my tax clients, for whom I save tens of millions of dollars per year, would agree that I have quite a good memmory, as tax law is quite challenging. Some of my clients have included: Entreprenuer of the Year of Manhattan and the Co-founder of the CNN Network. All the best! Sieger PS: My Dad bought me my first Luger when I was just 12 years old. |

Hi Mauser George and Sieger, I hope you won't be offended if I offer you some gray haired advice. Get a grip! Sorry, poor choice of words. Keep your cool! I know you are both experienced, knowledgeable, collectors, and it's no fun to be disagreed with publicly, but that's the nature of a discussion forum like this. You have both presented very strong arguments, and we have all benefited from this debate. Please don't let it degenerate into a mean spirited exchange. Your friend, Norm

Excellent advise, if you could get him to take it! To keep the peace, my advise would be for Mr. George to neither read nor respond to my posts at all. I, in turn, would be most happy to do the same favor for him. Thanks for your kind concern. Sieger |

Thank you for your posting as I believe you are 100% correct in your observation. Some forum members statements, message high-jacking, know it all attitude and expert on everything statements tend to get old fast. These same members postings I feel are condescending in their statements and their attempts to speak down to others. It’s not what one says, but how one says it. Yet some folks are just not confortable around others and fell that they must always be one up on everyone else! I feel everyone is entitled to their option. If I am off base or incorrect in what I post on this forum, I would appreciate if it was brought to my attention. I will never boast that I am expert, how important I am, how much money I make, what I do for a living, that I am acquainted with famous or import people as this BS is not at all relevant to this forum! FORUM MEMBERS, please accept my sincere apologies if I have offended any of you with my posting! Regards, George Upstate New York Saratoga Springs |

You make me laugh! I was reminded of an important lesson by a fellow forum member that I have lost sight off. It’s never a good idea to lower oneself to argue at another person’s level! Regards, George |

For Sieger and Mauser George...
Norm tried gently the other day to suggest you give it up...... I will tell you that I for one am tired of you two filling up space with your personal attacks back and forth...... It's boring and adds nothing at all to what IMO this forum is all about. One of you used the term "juvenile behavior" and I will tell you that that pretty much nailed it........... I would hope a Moderator get's involved...........

I'm with Dave, this childish bickering is really getting old.

I've not seen it on Lugers, but IIRC, I have seen a P-38 that had a gray-green finish (phosphate I believe, not exactly Parkerizing, but more like the Garand finishes)...
It may have been one of the French P-38's...Post-war...Manurhin???
