Post Help! I am new owner of a Luger

Hello, after wanting a Luger for over 40 years, i finally made the plunge! I bought a Luger shooter to begin with and am trying to learn about the gun. I have done basic research but I do have a couple of questions that I hope someone can help with with learning about the markings. Here they are:

1. The chamber carries a single date of 1921. At some early date, i am told, the gun was reblued. There are no "made in Germany" markings on the gun which suggests it is not a commercial. Is this a rework of WW1? If so, how can I tell if it is or is not?

2. There are some inscriptions on the frame below the trigger guard that seperates the grips. Some are not legiable. What I can read appears to be "S.F.I(?) something .90" Can someone help decifer?

3. On the frame, immeidately under the barrel, under the serial number there is the letter :"a" lower case. What does this mean?

I thank you for any help you can provide.

Have a great one!

Hi Chris, welcome to the forum. Your Luger is not WW1 which ended in 1918. The lower case a beneath the serial on the front of the frame is the suffix to the serial. Gary is right, we need to see pictures to give you more info, particularly the left side of the gun and the front grip strap. Regards, Norm

Unit markings?

The "S.F.I...90" could be a Police unit marking. Schutzpolizei Frankfort?

Pictures will help.

What marking is on the forward toggle?
