Toggle will not stay open?

A friend inherited a really nice S/42-1936................really nice!!!

He brought it to me to help with I.D., value etc. The toggle will not stay open?

So far I've swapped his upper to the lower of my "shooter" and it stays open.

Put my "shooter upper" on his his lower and it will not stay open.

I suspect a problem with the holdopen latch spring. Can the spring, only, be replaced? or should I be looking someplace else for a problem?
