Default How to remove old linseed oil

My latest Mauser has grips that someone applied linseed oil to... It is dry and seemly very difficult to remove. Any suggestions on how to remove it?

Formby's Furniture Refinisher at your local building supply or hardware store. It will disslove just about any type of old finish.

I use Murphy's oil soap to remove grime; and if painted or the like, I use orange paint remover, fairly gentle (as is Formby's); let them dry, but then I'd put linseen oil back on mine. Most likely yours has something else or like you said, several coatings that is dried and yucky

I have finished about 25 M1 garand stocks over the last few years. The best thing I have found is a item called PURPLE POWER ,it is similar to Simple Green but works much faster. Most of the stocks I have done are not collector grade.I spray on PP then rinse with warm water. If you do not want to use water, use acetone or mineral spirts. The wood will be totally free of oil, grim, grease etc.I buy it by the gallon for about $6.00 at Advance Auto Parts, can also find it at Walmart I am told. It really works, you will be surprised.
