Default VOPO Luger P.08 Holster?? With tool pouch.

I was wondering if I could get some info on my holster. I found some similar looking holsters on the internet and they called it a VOPO Luger holster. I am not able to find any markings on this holster.

And to be honest, my P38 fits a lot better than my Luger does in this thing... Is this just the way they were made? Perhaps just a modified P38 holster to use with P.08s? Either way it is a neat holster. Any info on it is appreciated

That is a P-38 holster.... that can also be used with a Luger.

Don't store the gun in it! I see serious scratch issues on a P08's backstrap from the tool pouch stud when the flap is closed.

Don't worry I wouldn't, I don't have any VOPO Lugers to use it with anyways.

Hi,

This is quite an early pebble grain version of the P08 DDR VoPo holster. They also produced a more classic looking P08 holster in the early years, but these appear to have remained largely unissued.

The early DDR years see the reuse of the P08 and P38 on a large scale, so they developed a holster that could accomodate both and wasn't too expensive to produce. A P38-only holster would not have the loading tool pouch and the tool pouch was deleted on later VoPo holsters, although those were also used to carry both the P08 and P38.

In those days they also still used the Sauer Mod. 30 and 38, the Walther PP and PPK and the Mauser and Dreyse pistols. Other favorites were the StG44 and the MG34, alongside the trusty K98 which was mainly issued to border patrols. It wasn't until the 1960s that they rearmed using USSR equipment.

I agree with the above info, except I believe the holster shown is actually pig skin (due to the pores on the inside) rather than pebble grain. These are getting hard to find. TH

Tom, Your both right...it's made of pig skin but also pebble grained on the surface. Neat holster.

I agree that this is a regulation East German luger holster. Notice the butt flap that is typical on DDR holsters. The East Germans also made a distinctive hard shell holster for the luger.

Here's a grouping with the DDR hardshell holster, a couple of QA tools and some assorted DDR stuff.
