A bum day at the range

I got some castlead bullets, 115 gr. Worked up the same Bullseye load I have used in the past. Took all three of my pistols out to the range to get the muzzle velocity. I was especially intersted in the MV for the new Luger. Well, everything went great. The cast bullets loads cycles through the Luger just like the TCJ 124 loads did. But the sun screwed up my Chrony, and I didn't get any MV data for the Luger. It worked great, but my BHP shot off to the right ( I forgot to run a patch thru the bore to get rid of the oil), and it busted one of the light diffusers on the Chrony. The Luger worked great, but the Chrony wouldn't give me any velocity data. I'll just wait for a cloudy day, and go for it again.

Tried again the next day. Clouds looked great; wouldn't need the screens. Well, wouldn't you know it, the clouds went away just as I got the Chrony set up. So, out came the screens. Got all the velocity info for the BHP and the Sig P239 for the 115 and 135 cast bullets. Then got out the Luger. Learned a few things, like:

1. Luger did not like to be sit in the "bench rest" for shooting. Preferred the hand hold. It shot off both screens with one shot while in the bench rest.

2. The Luger doesn't like cast bullets as well as I thought. The bullets were set short (OAL) because of the Lube groove. Several did not feed from the magazine. Some jambed, fed too high and the cast bullets jambed at the top of the chamber (extractor location).

Decided that I have lots of 115 grain lead bullets for the other pistols. Ordered some more Rainier 124 gr RN TCJ; they hand load and shoot fine in the Luger. It was a very educational day. Any day I learn something is a good day, even if I learn that there is a challenge I need to resolve. This was indeed a good day.

By the way, I scrub with patches TetraGun Lubricant in the barrels of all my firearms, the large calibers every 500 rounds. I did not experience any problems removing the lead from barrels by normal cleaning. I keep track of the rounds fired on my computer, and when to re-TetraGun the bores gets flagged. I think it is good stuff. The grease is an excellent lubricant for pistols. I even use the lubutcant for my AR15A2 Target rifle instead of LSA, and have never experienced a problem.
