1939 s/42 all matching
Hello,
I'm new to this forum although I have been a gun collector for 30+ years....just not Lugers. I prefer American sporting arms & advertising. I recently acquired a 1939 s/42 in 98+% condition. All sn's I can see match including one mag. It is in a 1939 dated holster. The gun was in one family since The War. Being that the gun is in such incredible condition I suspected a refinish but the more I look I dont think so. All markings/stamps are crisp, all edges are sharp, there is no evidence of prior pitting. The blue is alittle "cloudy" in a few places which I read may be a characteristic of a correct finish. My question is this...there are no "straw" finished parts. I think I read that "straw" parts ended around '37. Can somebody verify for me that this is correct thinking. The set will probably find a new home but I want to know for sure what I'm representing. Thanks. |

You are correct it should have blued parts and no strawed parts. Strawed parts ended in 1937 and the bluing process changed. We can give you better answers with pictures. What marks are on the holster? Bill
