This particular pistol is in fairly good condition, mainly surface wear, rifling & chamber exc. operates perfectly when empty, but when a round is chambered it takes two hard trigger pulls to release the firing pin,and fire the pistol.Have compaired the working parts with other Lugers I have, and everything appears to be ok.Has anyone else ever had a similar problem.Kestraal.

Hi Kestraal,
Welcome to the forum - I see you're just over the water, it's good to see another Channel Islander. I think that makes two of us on this forum? Anyone else? I'm sure another member will have some positive suggestions to assist you. There a wealth of knowledge & interest available here. Was your luger a 'left behind' - most of mine are. Hi Kestraal,
Let me add my welcome to the Lugerforum. I would venture a guess that you Luger is not all matching parts... probably some fitting is needed in the sideplate / sear / disconnector engagement. Do a search for "Trigger" and "sideplate" - especially in the repairs forum, see what that brings up as far as suggestions. If you find no help, then let me know here and I will come back and advise you... just kind of busy right at the moment. I am sure we can help you out.

Great to have a neighbour, Yes the 4" 1912 was a donation by the Luftwaffe,my Uncle aquired this one on the day it all ended.Have been lucky to have aquired most of my collection courtesy of the German Army 1945,most of which was nearly new at the time. And as you know, they brought over some weird & wonderful bits & pieces from occupied countries as well as their own.Lugers are my main passion, but all handguns, with a preference to autopistols are all welcome,I do however really get on well with my S&W mod 10 4" Bull barrel revolver,in 38 spec.no target sights, just a grove sight but so accurate. What (apart from Lugers that is )is your preferences.Kestraal

Reply to John Sabato, thanks for reply, regret all the parts are original with matching numbers. This is why its been causing me such a puzzle,Ive tried changing parts with others,no change,All I can think is that its not completley lined up, as it was Luftwaffe, prehaps it had been damaged at some time in an accident, although it seems perfect to me.I have just got hold of a 1910 barrel & receiver,I will swap the parts around and let you know after this weekend. Thanks again Kestraal

I am curious as to wether you are ruled by the same draconian gun laws as in the rest of Britain on the channel islands?

Thanks for your interest,we in the Channel Islands are British, but not part of the UK.We are subjects of the Queen of England, not the UK parliment. We have no MPs in the UK parliment, plus we are also not part of the European Union. We have our own Govt ,and the Island of Jersey which is roughly 20 to 25% larger than us also has the same type of juristriction as us, but has a completely different type of Govt. But they both seem to work ok for each Island.Guernsey & Jersey do however have similar gun laws,We were occupied by the German Army etc From June 1940 till May 1945.They left so many weapons behind, that our authorities thought it easier to issue licences and let people keep what they had than have it all go underground. Also people here are pretty law abiding, compared to many other places we seem to tick along quite well without to much trouble. If you ever get the chance they are both worth visiting,The people are very friendly.Best regards Kesrtaal

To Channel Isles, My Stg 44 7.92 kurtz is now in Jersey, as you know we lost those back in 1996. still have a stack of new ammo for it, which doesnt fit anything else. Also have a new spare mag in hand if you hear of anyone needing one, You might be interested to know that there is a firm in Germany producing a semi-auto copy of the MP40 Schmeisser called the B3, only have a pic of it though, no other details. Have a source in Germany now for mags, managed to aquire Sauer M38H 32acp mags at last.

I've not seen the Sturmgewehr 44 yet - I'll keep an eye out - perhaps the owner will be interested in the spare mag or Ammo, from memory the ammo's pretty steep. MP40 The above link will take you to the semi auto MP38. There were a few MP40's left behind but I've not come across a '38, I guess at the time of the Islands' occupation, the then current issue was the '40. The M14 came from Guernsey around '86; the 7.92 ammo's now 33p a round ![]() Drop me a PM if you know of anything 'Luger' up for sale. ![]() |

ChannelIsles,
When you mention M14, are you talking about the U.S. Service Rifle in 7.62 x51 Nato caliber? or some other weapon?

I guess I was getting carried away with the mention of 7.92 mm Kurz; my M14 uses regular 7.62 MM & this is now 33p a go. At least that what it says on the tin.... ![]() |

Brendan,
A very nice example of M14 indeed... an early one. I am very curious as to how such a piece made it to your island? I am not aware of any M14's that were ever released for sale to anyone except foreign governments... Looks like all you lack for Full Auto is the selector shaft and knob! If they were available are they legal in your location?

I took my basic training (Army) in October of 1967 with an M-14 made by TRW. Not as nice a finish as a Winchester version, but it was a real tack driver for as used as it was... it brought me the highest scores in my training battalion... I now own a Springfield Armory M1A in its honor... with about 10 magazines...
I remember a long day in November of the same year coming in from a day in the field completely covered in thick mud... I showered with my uniform boots and rifle till the mud was gone... spent the rest of the day cleaning and oiling my M14 and then polishing my boots until well after lights out... ...and those were the good ole days? Yeah they were... ![]()
