Default banned for using the word poop

I was just banned for 7 days because I used the word "crap" to describe the stuff I dug out of my 45 seating die. I was having trouble reloading and was trying to get help to figure out what was wrong. http://forum.m1911.org/index.php? Has anyone else had any dealings with this site? I try not to stir up trouble, but "crap" is exactly what it was. They warned me and I rewrote the post. I used Poop instead of crap and got the ban for 7 days. I understand not useing the F word or S word. or any of George Carlins 7 words. But POOP? I just wanted to get a few other opinions to see if I am being to sensitive.

Well, I think it's extreme, but it's their forum. As you said, you were warned and used a variation of the word.

I think you need to weigh the value of the forum against your outrage. If one is more than the other, then your choice is made.

I think it was because you were warned and then posted anyway; the moderator felt you were "dissing hom" if he's a younger guy or "teeing" off a older moderator.

I read their forum rules and mostly agree, but as a moderator who likes a "clean" board in language, felt that they go to extremes.
Quote:
Disguising a vulgar or obscene word with symbols or random characters ($, *, etc), deliberate misspelling to by-pass the naughty word filter, or using common synonyms when the intended word can be easily inferred from the substitute is considered the same as using that foul word, so please don't try it. In addition, the use of slang adjectives deriving from words associated with excrement or bodily functions are considered extremely insulting in some cultures and for that reason such words may not be used on these forums.
Although I agree that the best language should be used by users, I also beleive that a forum like this is primarily used by grown ups and sometimes we all use a bad word or two (even John ) and to get this techical I find a bit amazing. Still, I think its because you were warned and posted again.

And growing up, I never thought of "crap" as being poop, but more like the word "gunk"; so like I said, all is left up to interpretation.....

The statement is extremely detailed and clear. And you did receive a warning, although I feel you are of a mind as to never agree that you were in violation.

You have to accept the "ruling" or move on. In any case it's not worth it to keep on worrying about it.

I am not worried about it. I am only letting others know of ridiculous policy in hopes that some one from the other site will see how ridiculous it is and change. Nothing ever changed by just sitting in the back of the bus. One has to agitate to some degree to get change. I do not believe in being vulgar, or of a low intellectual argument. But I do feel that standing up and saying "Hey, this is out side reasonable." is something needed once in a while. Is this not what we are told by the right wing all the time? That people died so we could stand up and say to our politicians or anyone for that mater "I do not agree with you and here is why" Any dictator loves the idea of people shutting up and sitting down. It is a dangerous thing to do in any situation.

Hmmm.. interesting. By that interpretation, one could be placed on "administrative hold" by saying something along the lines of:

"I was really, really.... vexed... by the amount of ...effluvium... I dug out of my die."

Here, one could cite two violations.

I decry the cheapening of the American tongue as much as anyone, but in truth, the American tongue was always pretty low to begin with. A land of mutts we are (ooopsss.... sorry.... a land of ill-considered breeding).

Oh, well... this is interesting, but I had not been part of that forum, so it affects me not at this point. Interesting to see the discussion on use of language in the Internet age however.

I got banned there with what looked like to me an innocent comment, I tried to expalin to the administrators and offered an apology and they blew me off. Part of the problem is the guy who owns that site is in Greece and I am not sure he understands vernacular English very well and makes some draconian assumptions. I will not go back as it isn't worth the effort.

Hi:

When you used the "S" word last week, did the Language Police knock on your door?

It doesn't matter what your opinion is of what is reasonable or unreasonable... when you join a forum, the rules are posted up front at registration time... you either accept them as RULES or go play in somebody else's sandbox.

The choice was yours when you joined. Changed your mind about complying with posted rules??? Then you don't belong in the sandbox anymore...

Want Change? ( I am so tired of that expression ) then approach it OFF LINE with the Moderator... Don't break the rules and then debate the matter...

Case closed, and so is this thread.
