From a novice Luger owner:
Are the major parts (barrel, receiver, frame, toggle parts, grips, sideplate, etc) of the various makers (Erfurt, DWM, Swiss, Mauser) generally interchangeable? Thanks! Jeff |

no, yes
generally all parts required hand fitting, so generally parts are close, but not compleltly interchangeable ed

Hi Jeff,
I'm currently working on a parts comparison diagram, for a future publication. The Swiss M1929 and the 1970s Mauser Parabellum have a lot in common but also differ strongly from the DWM/Erfurt/Krieghoff P08 design in more ways than one. Grip safety and safety construction is completely different. Generally speaking, the toggle assembly as a whole is pretty much interchangeable. Springs, sear, firing pins and sideplates and small bits as well. Barrels are a challenge, receivers will work with some tweaking, etc.., etc... Swapping parts without thoroughly checking fit and functionality is not without danger. I once had a gun go full auto after a firing pin mix-up. |

The luger was designed in the days when hand fitting of parts at the factory was relatively cheap, so don't expect just "any" part to interchange. You do have a better chance with parts from the same manufacturer of the same era. Most grips, side plates, sears, etc require some fitting. A random interchange of these parts is just a matter of luck. TH
