Artillery Mainspring Question
Just bought my first Artillery. The action is quite smooth, but it seems to me that it is considerably easier to manually exercise the toggle than with the standard 4" Luger.
Were the mainsprings in Artillery Lugers made deliberately weaker because of the greater barrel mass? |

Re: Artillery Mainspring Question
Yes, that what I am told, but Harry Jones books dont really show them with shorter spring where he shows spring lengths, weights, and turns for many models. Kind of a strip and measure the springs chart. I would imagine the extra barrel lengths COULD possibly cause high velocitys over the 4" which would result in greater recoil compensating for some or all the extra mass. The one I did a couple of years ago had a stout spring and my reloads (I dont remember what they were) worked the first time. I know that is a trick that some use, to make them work a little better with std pressure loads. A slightly hotter load and a std spring might work just fine too! I think Tom Heller has a lot of experience in this regard! Thor
