I once replaced a breech block on an Artillery that I reworked and I never knew what caused the problem with it's original damaged breech block not being able to remain loaded. You would load the gun and then after a few seconds, you would here the plunger come out of the back of the breech with a "sproung" sound! I now know what happened to this gun in a previous era! I've fluted firing pins with a Dremel tool with an old DWM as a guide. Works fine.

But I wouldn't flute an original matching number firing pin!
You would lose more in value than the cost of a fluted replacement..
