Default Stripping and re-painting an Erma .22 Luger

I have an Erma La-22 that actually works some of the time. The finish is mostly worn off of the zinc or whatever type of pot-metal they made these out of. I was wondering if anyone had managed to strip the old paint and redo one of these.
I would hate to try to strip off the paint and have the gun melt or dissolve.

Thanx,

Mike

Just take a black permanent felt tip marker and recolor it.

I already tried crayon, but it kept coming off.
Mike

P.S. Hugh, you still got that gun that's supposed to look like an armadillo?

Hi,

Most collector's toy cars from the 50s, 60s and 70s were made of pot metal. Perhaps a toy car restorer can give guidance.

You might try acetone on a small spot to see how that works. It won't hurt the metal and it does dissolve most paints.

Mike, If you are succesful getting off what paint is left you might consider re painting it with an epoxy enamel. Appliance paint. Comes in a rattle can but it's hard as a rock. Should be able to get it in black. Jerry Burney
