Just try to figure out what is the content of the "long' holster. Any idea?

Looks like a flare pistol holster.

I agree with Ron. The guy is a bugler so I would guess that even in the early Wehrmacht he might be the commander's signal guy.

Flare postol with the cleaning rod in front. I have this same rig with a walther flare pistol. They are made out of that erstatz type leather replacement material.
