Mauser 1936 Siam contract gun

Hi Guys,
Along with the 1906 Waffenfabrik Bern Swiss luger mention in my Swiss luger post, in the same auction here in New Zealand earlier this week I purchased a very nice 1936 Mauser Siam contract Luger.







The gun is one of the 77 known 4" models that was imported by OLIN into the USA in 1981 (Credit to Jan C Stills' Third Reich Lugers page 189) and is inscribed OLIN ALEXANDRIA and GERMANY under the frame front number. The gun is really in excellent condition considering it original location and the barrel is also excellent. The grips are worn but are numbered to the gun and the gun is all matching numbers. The gun is numbered 4236V.






The gun is stamped with the rampant lion Siam stamp and the Thai property number which my I understand could be 606 or 404.







I am very pleased to find such a rare gun here in New Zealand.

I am really not sure Ron how it found it's way to New Zealand other to say that we have a very large number of collectors, are able to import guns and have the highest number of fire-arms per capita in the world, twice as many as the USA.
I tried to establish who imported it from the USA but had no luck.

Recently I purchased a mint condition dutch Vickers which had no serial number and no proof marks or aceptance marks which I know for certain has been in New Zealand since 1970.

I have a fondness for contract Lugers, even those made after 1918! You have acquired a fine example of a scarce piece. Congratulations.

I had a very nice visit last evening with a fellow New Zealander, Wallace Logan. He and a couple of El Paso collectors came around to look at my Luger collection and sip a good Texas Shiner Bock beer. A thoroughly enjoyable time. Perhaps the next time you are passing through El Paso you can dwell a little longer than last time.

Hi Ron,
I last saw Wallace at the Wellington Branch Antique Arms auction earlier this year where I purchased a very nice Vickers luger in pristeen condition which had belonged to Wallace. He had purchased it some 30 years ago from the auction of the Dr. Ongley collection in the 1970's. It is also an interesting gun insomuch that is has no numbers, or proof marks or acceptance marks.
Jan and I are going to the USA for Thanksgiving and a gun show a week later in Arizona next month.
It is a shame we did not have more time otherwise we might come and raid El Paso.

And I thought it was Christmas with just one 4" Siam while it seems you have half of Thailand in your collection.
You don't happen to have a holster for the 4" by chance. I would love to know what holster the Thai's used for thier guns.

HELLO - SIAM LUGER COLLECTORS---I recently was offered an 8" Thailand Luger with stock (no holster). About 75%. Asking $6,000---but that sounds high to me. ANY OPINIONS ON THAT PRICE?

If the stock matches, that price may not be too far out of line. The Thai LP-08s are possibly the rarest of all LP-08s and are, in my opinion, undervalued sleepers, much like byf 42s and Erfurts 10 years ago.

I agree with Tom that the price correct if the rig is complete.

In my personal list, the Siam LP08 are in the second position.
To me the rarest LP08s are the the pistols made by Mauser in 1945-47 when controlled by the French authorities and used by the Spahis of the General Koenig when Governor of the French area in Germany.
What is interesting is that the Siam and the French are the only one with the Mauser banner.

I always like it when you go shopping. You always manage to buy such interesting stuff. On artilleries, I don't think that any holsters survived the Thai humid weather. Maybe the 4 inch Lugers suffered the same fate. On artillery stocks, I wonder if any of them are original since the serial numbers are on the neck of the wood and the wood always looks in almost too good of a condition. That strikes me as possibly an Olin replacement too.

your picture of your French artillery didn't come out so good for me. Did something happen here? The bottom half of the picture was truncated.

I always thought that finding a Persian artillery with all matching serial numbers (on the stock and magazines) was a tough find. True, you can find a Persian artillery with Persian stocks and magazines but not with the matching numbers on them.
