Mag question about Erfurt Luger
Have a nice, matching 1916 Erfurt Luger that I recently acquired. The magazine however, does not match. What type of markings were on an Erfurt magazine? Would be nice to at least obtain a proper magazine for it. How were the wooden bottoms marked? Serial number with Imperial mark? The magazine in the pistol now is that of WW2 production. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Mathew,
In 1916 Erfut began manufacturing magazines with a single crown/letter inspection mark, stamped on the back (square) end of the base. The mag base is stamped with the full serial number including suffix, and the spare magazine is indicated with a +. Make sure that a magazine you are looking at is in a proper tube: Erfurt magazine tubes are a slightly yellow hue; the follower buttons have square checkering (as opposed to the DWM diamond checkering); and the follower staking is rectangular rather than thumbnail-style. If you do a keyword search on those terms in these Forums you will probably come up with some pictures. --Dwight |
