any info would be welcome. I have a byf 41, all matching numbers. waa655 on gun. My holster is marked fuq1942. waa14. My take down tool is marked 42, no other markings. The gun is about 75 to 80%. The holster is in very nice condition. I will try to post pics when I figure out how.

wjg. Your holster was manufactured by Cottbusser Lederwarenwerk Curt, Vogel KG,Cottbus Wernerstrasse. It was made in 1942. The fug is the code assigned to the manufacturer. The luger will require pictures to tell you very much.

William, welcome to the forum!

Basic info, byf = mauser, 41 = 1941. We'd need full serial number and suffix to help further, plus pictures. There is a tutorial under the help section.

Any info would be welcomed. I have the maker of the holster but is it cow or pig? Is my gun a collector or just a shooter. The grips do match inside with the number 11. All other parts, including the mag also match. Is the tool, holster and gun a good match according to dates? Is there any info on the tool?

Your 42 holster is cow." Boy, am I jealous". I have a 42 pig that shows it was worn till late war. Wish we had got him early! He done some fight'n!

I have a couple of "pigs" in my collection too. I still like "cow" much better.

I agree, I think it is a collector more than a shooter. The mismatched grips will hurt the value some, but I would love to have your rig! Congratulations.

Two pieces of advice on this fine rig...

First, do not store the gun in the holster. Keep the holster filled with bubble wrap to hold it's shape. Keep everything cool and dry. insert some bubble wrap (about .25 inch thick) inside the belt loops to keep them from going flat.

Second, don't store the magazines in the holster either. Carve yourself a piece of wood that is the correct shape and gently insert it into the mag pouch to restore it's full shape.

Thanks to all for your advice. Marvin, you mentioned about the grips. As far as I know, they do match. The number 11 shows on each one. Do you see something that shows a mismatch? I have sooo much more to learn. Can anyone give me a valve? What % of condition would you guess!

Sorry, I was in a hurry when I read your Thread and I thought you said the grips were mismatched. I only get to read the Forum when I am out of town very quickly; I need to slow down, LOL! Sorry for the confusion. You do indeed have a nice rig. The 1941 & 1942 Lugers are my favorites.

Follow John S. advice about the holster. I have had holsters for years stored this way and they are still in great condition. Another thing, don't keep them in sunlight, it is bad for any old leather.

The tool marked only with a "42" is an armorer's spare... 42 is a previous code for Mauser (before byf) ... but it is still authentic to the period, and it is reasonable that the original tool may have been lost, and replaced with an armorer's spare... Still a FINE example of a late model military Mauser rig.

Is there a way to search out used mags that are for sale from members. I would like to see what mag would be the closest match to my 1011t that may be for sale. If someone has advice on serial number ranges that may make the most sence.
