Default What is this grip?

I have this pair of grips with strange inletting in the left grip. I have shown it on a Police Luger with a mag safety to illustrate that it is not a cutout for a mag safety. It also has a slot in the rear that is not large enough for a grip safety. Can anyone identify what the purpose of this inletting is? This is not a quiz! I haven't a clue what this is for!!!

Hugh, I've had several left side PO8 grips where the forward top corner was chipped off. If intentionally removed, it might have been to cure a sticking mag release. Here's a WAG re the slot at the rear or the grip: if a piece of metal was welded on to the safety lever, it's possible that it would show or be felt thru the rear of the grip when the safety was off. This might be useful to blind shooters on midnight missons, but I don't know who else would be interested. TH
