Just thought you guys might enjoy seeing this grouping of P38's, I got real lucky in my purchase several years ago. The dealer had an entire crate full and had sold them one at a time. I got the last four consecutive.

Jerry,
You should buy one soon while the prices for a later war, mint example are still $650-850. Just in the last few years P38's have gone up in value. A high polish early Walther with e/359 on all of the small parts with a matching mag and grips might be a good start but that will run you $1,200.00-$1,500.00 or more for a minty one. Mark |

Mark, Good advice. They are still relatively inexpensive compared to Lugers. My preference would be for a minty but not rare one. Since I know little about the P-38 I will have to study them a little. Thanks again for the great photo's. Jerry Burney

Well, at those prices you are into "Luger range" (as far as dollar wise that is). Don't get me wrong, good specimens should command those prices, I was just saying that for a P.38 at that price, your getting into a Luger price range.

minigun, You are right although for the minty Lugers they go up pretty rapidly. I saw a pretty nice P-38 with softshell holster here at a Yuma gunshow the guy wanted $600 for. I should have bought it.I have a minty hardshell P-38 holster. I would like to put a pistol in it. Thanks fellows! Jerry Burney

Hi Jerry,
You might have a look at postware ex-bundeswehr, police or DDR P38s. These are relatively affordable, some can be bought new in the box and they rate from 400 - 700 EUR at the moment. |

G. van Vlimmeren, Thanks. I have been aware of these and the aluminum frame P1's but am a stickler for authentic pieces. Even if I have to pay a little more I want to end up with a pistol of the pre 45 period. I guess it's the history attached that interests me.
Where in Holland are you? A good friend of mine here in Yuma is from Holland. I would ask how the weather there is but I think I know....Thanks for the advice, Jerry Burney

Ranvette,
I will be at the Marlboro show on Saturday about noon, some years I have scored and others nothing. I found a mismatched shooter luger with a new 8" barrel and reblue for under $400.00 about a year or so ago. Earl from Earls repair is always there but not many of his guns are MA complient. There is a guy who shows up with a ton of P38's and holsters if that's what you are looking for. However, he also has a nickel plated "presentation" P38 for a $1,000.00. It is a real nice plate job but hardly worth the money. Don't waste your breath on him about it being a "Bubba" job, he thinks it is legit! Told me that Warren Buxton didn't have it in his books on P38's because Warren hadn't seen every variation out there..... OK whatever........ Mark P.S. Nice Dualtone! |

"ranvette", excellent P.38. It's what I'm also looking for next in the ole collection. I need one more Luger ('38 S/42), then a nice BYF P.38 should sum up everything.
Right now, P.38's are in a good pricing range. I love it when you all share your stuff. If I can ever figure out how to post pics I will do the same. |

P38 pricing is good In part do to the supply of Import p38s.As that supply drys up the prices will rise.Pretty much the same trend that went on with Luger's in the past when there were a lot of Import Luger's coming into the country

Ranvette,
I agree with your statement regarding the imports. Here is a picture of a rare FN slide dual tone from my collection. Ranvette,
I am usually on the P38 forum but also have a website which is a work in progress http://www.p38guns.com. I'll be wearing an Arnold Brant hat on Saturday that says "CBS Sports" on it, should be there about noonish. Mark |
