1906 american eagle cutaway
Hey guys....... anyone remember ever seeing this " bird " ? It is a 1906 Eagle with a lazy crown N typical of the 1912's. It came into the Tulsa show this weekend. Serial number is 67085.
Mike

It has more cut-outs than any other cut away Luger I've ever seen and it's hard to see what purpose some of them serve.

Not sure why you would say that- looks like old fashioned milling to me; but, what or who - ever did it seems to have cut up a pretty nice AE.

Well,
you broach it or clean it up with a file; or use a key cutter. I see some corners that are nearly square, but messy- like the side plate; and the right side of the receiver is a cobbled up disaster. JMHO.

I had some interior cuts made not long ago with a Wire-EDM and although it was very precise it was also slow and the surface finish was 'satiny'. A broach would be the most likely tool here, I think. The round hole at one end of the slots is a gave-away.

I agree Don, seems like it was a VERY nice pistol that got the cutaway treatment... what a shame.

What I figured, reads like a "chumming" post!

I like it. If it was reasonably priced, I would buy it. It's one of the few handguns I would actually display.
But I wonder what the BATF thinks about cutaway display models. I'm pretty sure that Cuomo would class it as an assault weapon.
