Hey guys....... anyone remember ever seeing this " bird " ? It is a 1906 Eagle with a lazy crown N typical of the 1912's. It came into the Tulsa show this weekend. Serial number is 67085.

Hmmmm...Wire-EDM maybe?...

It has more cut-outs than any other cut away Luger I've ever seen and it's hard to see what purpose some of them serve.

Not sure why you would say that- looks like old fashioned milling to me; but, what or who - ever did it seems to have cut up a pretty nice AE.

How, pray tell, do you mill a square corner??? :)

DonVoigt 04-04-2017 08:35 AM

Well,
you broach it or clean it up with a file; or use a key cutter.

I see some corners that are nearly square, but messy- like the side plate; and the right side of the receiver is a cobbled up disaster.

JMHO.

I was watching The Science Channel/How It's Made last week and they showed some kind of bandsaw but instead of a saw blade it had a diamond-impregnated wire. I forget what they were making/cutting, but it was an interesting tool. :)

I had some interior cuts made not long ago with a Wire-EDM and although it was very precise it was also slow and the surface finish was 'satiny'.

A broach would be the most likely tool here, I think. The round hole at one end of the slots is a gave-away.

I agree Don, seems like it was a VERY nice pistol that got the cutaway treatment... what a shame.

abukafura 04-04-2017 09:52 AM

Do you recall what the asking price was for this cutaway model?

Edward Tinker 04-04-2017 11:24 AM

if Mike is showing it, I imagine he bought it

abukafura 04-04-2017 12:39 PM

OK, thanks Ed. I thought it was still for sale.

Norme 04-04-2017 12:45 PM

If Mike bought it, it's still for sale.
Regards, Norm

What I figured, reads like a "chumming" post!

I like it. If it was reasonably priced, I would buy it. It's one of the few handguns I would actually display. :)

But I wonder what the BATF thinks about cutaway display models.

I'm pretty sure that Cuomo would class it as an assault weapon.
