Default FAILURE TO EXTRACT(SOMETIMES)

As expected my luger sometimes even with the 124 grain 9mm ammo either fails to fully eject the bullet or worse the shell is still lodged in the barrel the next bullet in the mag is pushing hard upon the toggle is locked open hence a jam! I noticed there is play in my extractor up and down and front to back. I may have been over zealous in cleaning it and stretched the extractor spring while lifting it up to clean out crud. Any thoughts or solutions appreciated

Hi

Can a shell hang in the extractor if you lightly shake the breachblock outside of the gun?

The extractor have to hold a quite hard grip on the case to exctract it.

If not I think you should examine the tip of the extractor to see if its harmed.

If that is ok change the extractor spring.

Another possible source might also be a rough or to big chamber.

If the chamber is to rough it's need polishing but if its to big in diameter, it needs a new chamber(barrel)

Hi,I had the same problem but first changed magazines and luckily this was the problem.I have in the past found two magazines one a P38 and one a P08 both with the springs in backwards.Maybe thats why the pistols were sold.Mike

Bob, I experienced the same thing. In my case it was a broken extractor.

The pin that holds the extractor in goes through a "V" groove, not a hole. (the replacements have a hole) The bottom part of the "V" had about 1/32" broken off. That was enough to allow play in the extractor and cause unreliable function.

Hope this helps.

Aimco and "orginial" Luger parts are not interchangable. For Aimco, you'll have to go back to the manufacturer (sole source) Tom Heller has a good supply of original and repo parts for the standard Luger at fair prices. Failing Tom, you might want to try MarStar in Canda(see links to the Left) their prices are good because of the dollar exchange rate. But shipping is very slow because everything must go postal ground. Also, you will find some debate about quality if you follow some old threads.
