LP-08 repo stock

Hello,
I have seen a repo stock that I think was made in the 1970's but not sure.What was the stocks made of? Walnut? Oak? How can you tell? Is walnut more of a curving grain or straight? Is this Legal to mount on an LP-08? What price should I pay (asking $200+ no box)

Michael, If it is a repro? It is probably made of birchwood. American Walnut would most likely be a darker wood that can have highly figured grain, right down to straight as a fence post. original stocks were usually made of European walnut.

Maple would be pale in color, but usually with some figure in it that could have a wide variation of pattern. Birdseye, quilt, shell, etc.

It's probably not oak.

The stock is a dark wood (rich dark brown) like what is on my 1913 remington 14 1/2 and wavey. but I was told it is a repo. It looks like those from the 70's that pics have been on this site, no numbers on stock. They had a repo navy with dark wood but grain was straight so I was not interested but it was sold. Is $200.00 to much with out the leather?

It sounds like walnut, but can't be absolutly positive without seeing it. If it is a very high quality repro? $200 would'nt be excessive, but about the maximum. Repro Luger stuff is going up too.

original stocks for an artillery Luger will start at maybe $450 and go up from there. Original navy stocks are too hard to find to put a starting price on them, but will start at a much higher price. Repro stocks alone usually go for a cheaper price than $200. You should be able to get a stock WITH leather and straps for $200. But the current market in anything Luger is sorta crazy now. So Ron might be correct in his estimate.

Yes, according to the BATF, you can legally mount an artillery Luger stock on an artillery Luger, even if the stock is a repro. The same goes for navy Lugers and 1900, 1902 and 1906 Lugers with their 'Ideal' grips and stocks.

All Norm stated is correct...

BUT you should know that it is NOT LEGAL to mount an Artillery Stock on anything BUT an Artillery Luger, and the same is true of the Navy Stock, it can't be legally mounted on anything but a Genuine Navy Luger

... Reproduction stock or otherwise, you must meet the configuration specifications of the ATF C&R list to be legal.

Hello all
The stock I saw was made here in the USA by a Mr.Bill Doerflinger in Sacramento CA. He is a gun smith now in his 70's and made a lot of copys in walnut of many types of stocks for pistols. His wife said he had collected Lugers so maybe someone here knows him? There is a link on the Navy Board for one of his copys that was on Ebay. I was told he made very close copys of the stock.
Thanks John, I will not use the stock but on the LP-08, To bad the goverment gets into things they have no bussiness in. I hope to buy an all matching Luger with stock/holster after the first of the year.( but I love to have a 1906 carbine, too much tho at this time)

MG, I have known Bill for quite a few years. He is an excellent machinist and a master craftsman. He replicated many items along the Luger line. I have never seen one of his stocks but I am positive he made them to original specs. I never knew if he made his stock irons and if so, if they were machined or cast. If you are considering one of his stocks you might want to ask that specific. I know that some time ago Bill had a stroke so I do not know the full extent of his condition at present. Last time I talked with him he was recovering nicely. Jerry Burney

I emailed Susie and she said the iron was cast then 25% is machined, then blued and has a money back return with shipping if not happy. Will this be just for display or can I shoot with it? Also she said to say hello and Bill is doing fine.
