before I purchased 9mm Winchester 147 GR TCMC @ Wal*Mart. I've noticed from other posts this load is too hot? If, so, I assume I should not use at all?

Not too hot for a Luger! But the bullet is too heavy to reliably work some Lugers actions. The Win 115 gr works much better. Actually, I like the load and it works fine in a few of my "tuned" Lugers.

How would a 147 grain bullet detract from reliability? Are they pushing it out the barrel all that slow?

I dunno, has sumthin to do with the "impulse" on the toggle train, I think the burning rate of the powder is slower than that used with the lighter bullets.

While you do have to have an impulse within the correct range, the powder burning rate doesn't have much to do with that. Could it be that the 147 grainer being more "nose heavy" aggravates the modern 9 mm cartridge's propensity for being too short? Both factors would tend to tilt the nose downward.

We had a shooter, a few weeks ago, claim that the 147 stuff wouldn't even eject. Just how slow is this stuff anyway? Sieger |

As a test, I shot a boxful (50 rounds) of Federal American Eagle FMJ 147-gr out of my 1936 S/42 this afternoon. Mec-Gar magazines. 100% functional reilability.
