According to Jan Still, "Third Reich Lugers" page 125,

Type 1 Army magazines of rolled, nickel plated, sheet metal with a slant-cut aluminum base were used with "1936 (up to m serial block) dated Lugers." Type 2 magazines "same as Type 1 Army except blued" were used "with 1936 (past m serial block)." Hope this helps.
