They also have the only original" Luger Sporter" mag in existance. It must be worth millions!!! I had one just like it. Only mine was the economy model. The base was made from a chunk of an old red recoil pad. Din't have no faincy grooves in it.

It's only a matter of time before the pistol shows up.

Ron, You had a SOFT BOTTOM Luger mag? and let it go!!! That has been an empty spot in my collection for years. Just like the Sporter mag. Champagne taste and a beer budget is my lot. By the way, I have an LEO buddy working as a Bank Dick on the side. He is laughing his way to the bank!.....$$$$

I unfortunately do not have the original sporter magazine that came with it I got an excellent offer for it so I sold it to some guy from Ebay wherever that is.

The barrel is interesting. It looks like some kind of a pipe fitting where it joins the receiver doesn't it.

I've seen that Luger before!! It was on the front seat of a Zebra striped Cadillac on 4th and Market street in San Diego. I think it should be refered to as a "Sporting Man's" Luger.

And I have to agree with Steve. They is Yugerly!!! [ugly squared]

Just a note in passing... (kind of a drive-by note!) the grips, for those that don't know were made by the Jay Scott company... the laminated wooden base is the giveaway...they are not only ugly,... but they are at least 20 years old...

That would be correct Doug... They made them in simulated mother of pearl (both black like these and also in white), and they also made simulated ivory... all of them with a laminated wooden backing that I presume made it easier to manufacture to a standard. The fit, as I recall, was very dependent on the batch and the gun they were installed on. They make fine shooter grips so you don't damage your originals, but I personally find them too thick for my hand. My preference for shooting grips are the VOPO (bullseye) type... Excellent fit on most lugers and very durable.

Youse guys wouldn't know beauty if it spit in your eye. This is an all matching, less competition barrel and magazine, 1916 DWM finished with the ultra rare 'Black Chrome' finish ($350) and a mint 1970's era Mauser magazine that is guarenteed to stovepipe the 30 Cal round every other shot. Observe the gorgeous 100% gold strawing, unequaled in other lesser sporting models. The faux back pearl grips are long out of production and bring a premium price on the Luger sporting market. You should be so fotunate to even see such a thing of beauty let alone own one of them. I have to admit that I did pass on the pink suede hat, he wanted too much for it.

OMG Doug, blue and white are my favorite colors, where can I get that outfit?? I just decided that the black grips wouldn't go too well with it so I think I"ll replace them with these, what do you think?

You actually have two pairs of those grips!?

There used to be a gunshop here that had about 35 pairs of Jay Scotts. All new in the box. The dealer died of a heart attack. I think it was because he finally opened the boxes and looked at them.

They all had an original price of $12.50, and were marked down to $5. I don't think he ever sold a single pair.

Ron, I have one set of the black ones and two sets of the white ones which came in a box with the name Sile, New York, I think they went out of business in the early 70's. Actually the black ones on the sporter don't look bad in person, it's really hard to get a good pic of them because of the light reflection/refraction. The set of stag grips are just plain ugly.

Herb, I was thinking that your gun is not a true sporter. Yet! Anyone thought of having a set of "fire sights" installed on a shooter? These are the fiber optic rods. Should not be hard for a good gunsmith to do? Would definitely improve the sight picture.

I had a Smith&Wesson M&P that came with a pair of the black ones. And to be truthfull, they really don't look that bad. Your photo looks like they are kind of a "Death by Chocolate" up-chuck brown.

The stags look like they were made in a 4th grade arts and crafts
class.
