Default Info and Help 1915 Luger

Hello, I just got this gun from my father, He got it during WW2 taken from a german officer (rank unknown). It is in good shape just a little worn and need help in locating a small clip for the magazine holder (part # 028 on parts list for on this site). Hopefully the pics to follow will help in telling me all about this fine gun. holster and a extra clip along with tool did come along with it. On the left side before barrel is 4852 im guessing this is a serial number, and above it is a inscription and was wounder what that is, and means, along with in several places there is a 52 stamped. also would like to know what type ammo should be used with this gun and any tips on care to keeping in in good condition.
Thanks for any help and if any other info needed ill do my best to provide.
enjoy the photos.

Jeff

Hello Jeff,

This is a 1915 DWM made for WW1, it appears to be in fairly nice condition. We'd like to see the holster if we could?

The last two of the serial number should be on about 6-8 other parts, while under the barrel is usually the serial number and a 8,82, 8,83 etc., which is the land-to-land measurement acceptance marking.

Are the magazines marked, and do they have the same serial number? If not, what is the markings?

You can also post several pictures into one posting, that is just a bit trickier.

Welcome to the forum, as you can see, I collect stories such as this, if interested, please e-mail me.

Ed

Welcome to the Lugerforum. Nice Luger.

The part you need (28) is the Magazine holder catch spring, and you should be able to get it from several sources. Try placing a want-to-buy ad in the Wanted Forum classifieds. The guy you need to ask is Tom Heller (Lugerdoc).

You may also find this part from Sarco or possibly Gunpartscorp.com

Jim, Nice example of a 1915 DWM military PO8 with one matching mag & holster. Unless my eyes, or your photo, deceive me, the tube of your #1447 (mismatched mag) appears to have a slot cut into the spine just above the wood bottom. If I'm correct, this may be an early Dutch luger mag tube that would have originally had a spring actuated quick release wood bottom. Definately worth restoring. If you can find the proper wood bottom, I have the spring. I also have exc original mag release springs available @$12 post paid or new repros @$8. Tom Heller POB 398 St.Charles, MO. 63302.

One last thing Jim... the actual serial number for the entire pistol is located on the front of the grip frame... There is likely a small alphabetical character under the serial number, that is integral to the serial number to distinguish it from other Lugers with the same four numbers which would have been repeated many times during the production of Lugers...

For any official purpose (e.g., registration forms, insurance papers, bills of sale, etc.) make sure you include the suffix letter with the serial number to make sure your Luger is documented properly.

Since one of your magazines is apparently matching, "4852 d +" then the letter suffix to be found on your Luger on the front of the grip frame should also be a "d" character. The plus sign indicates that this was the spare magazine for your Luger, and not the primary magazine...

I hope this has been helpful...
