Default What is?

Looking in Jeff Nolls book I still can't figure these out.

1916 LO8 unit mark III.L.7 Would this be 3rd army 7th Division?

1910 PO8 unit mark B.l.M.K.D.57. (On this unit mark the small case letter is in a fount that looks like a handwriting one). I believe this to be Bavarian
Lager? Munitions Detachment Company 57th weapon.

How about coming back with more details? Photos would be a great big help! Idealy we would like to see photos or at least complete info, to include serial numbers.

Also you might want to be absolutely certain that you are not misreading something or omitting punctuation. As an example, in the first mark "III.L.7"; is there a point behind the numeral seven, and are you sure that it is an upper case "L"?

In the second marking is it "B.(scriptic upper case L)...etc? You are not clear on that . Are you, perhaps, misreading the "...M.K.D.)? Unit marking mostly followed closely the regs but often went way out into left field.

Geo,
It is a small case "L". And it is M.K.D.57. The 57 is smaller than the letters. Thanks for the reply. Jim

I wasn't lucky in my bid for this piece on the recent Rock Island Auction. I thought the unit mark was unusual. I couldn't find it is Noll's book.

B.l.M.K.D.57 signifies Bayrisch Leichte Munitionskolonne of the Kavallerie-Division, weapon 57.

Thanks Jan, appreciate your post. I wonder if Jeff Noll is planning a second edition.

Anyone whose does not have the first edition should buy it. I did a book review on Jan Still's forum that has the ordering info.
