Help with a 1907 Savage pistol

While I have a few guns other that Lugers (and you can never have too many Lugers) I do have two nice 1907 model Savage pistols, one in 32ACP and the other in 380.
I kind of like them as they "fit in" with my other collecting, Savage being a contender in the US trials of 1906-7 with Luger and Colt etc.
Secondly, in WW2 Savage was a major manufacturer of the model of 1928A1 Thompson and the M1A1 Thompson, which is my other lust.
Also unique is the rotating barrel in the little Savage.
However! what I would like to know is that somewhere I read that the Portuguese used the Savage, especially in 9mm Corto. One of my guns has a proof mark which is a crown/V. Could this be Portuguese?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

No clue, but I have a 1907 also, kind of the same reasons as you. I don't have the info available, but there is a guy (at the savage company?) who could tell me what year and approx where it was shipped. Only cost me $25 or $30. Kind of neat to get.

These are neat guns. Mine is a .32 which belonged to my wife's grandfather, I think.

One of the neat things about many of these old pistols is that they're not
"blocky" like those of today. They have that "used bar of soap" feel that I love. Very smooth.

Hope you can find out about the mark.

Murry, Your C/V marking sounds more British (London proof house final "View" mark) than Portugese. Interesting note on those that were sold to Portugal: They original had factory grips with the Portugese crest rather than the Indian head. I've only owned one in this original configuration, as most of these grips were changed to the standard type, when brought back into the US for resale here. I do carry most parts for these pistol. TH
