Default Haenal Schmeisser Mag ?

I have just recently purchased my first luger. It is a G date S/42. I got 2 magazines along with it one of them is a Haenel Schmeisser which a guy at the auction where I bought the gun told me it might be a rare mag. I am trying to get pictures of the magazine and the gun so that I can put them on here, but for right now I will try to describe it as best as possible. The magazine is silver in color including the bottom piece. On the side of it, it has HAENEL SCHMEISSER PATENT written on it and then right after that it has an eagle with a small capital L next to it, like number (49) on the proof page. Can anyone tell me about this, and maybe the value of it? Thanks

Kyle

Kyle,
You have an Eagle/L police magazine. Are there any marks on the base besides the serial#? A 1 or 2 , possibly an odd looking eagle stamp? These are the best mags produced, and desirable.

Ron,

I have looked at the bottom of the mag and there is no markings there at all including no serial number. I thought that was kind of odd myself, since all of them I have seen have a serial number on them.

Kyle, Does it appear to have been sanded or ground off? I'm not an expert, but it's possible that it never had a number applied.

Ron,

It might be a possibility that it was sanded down, but I really don't think so. I am also no where close to being any kind of expert on this matter, myself.

Kyle, it could also be a replacement mag, or the bottom is a replacement. Good clear pictures would help decide that.

The eagle L is a police marking and also, many Haenal mags were for the police.

They come up on e-bay off and on, I have seen them go for $85, and I have seen them go past $150.

I once owned a Haenel Schmeisser Eagle L magazine that had no serial number or any other marking on the base. It was mint perfect and I guarantee it was original, never replaced and never sanded down. It was in a ratty condition Arty two mag pouch along with a wood bottomed WWI vintage mag in pretty nice condition. Got the whole group for $40...one of my better deals.
