Mark,
I recently paid about that much for a refinished, mismatched 1900 AE. I bought it as a shooter and I am very happy with it. I have always admired the early lugers with dished toggles and pencil-thin barrels. The gun was expertly refinished by Ted Green (Thor) although it must have been a basket case when he took it on. To answer your question with a question: Why do you want the gun? A refinished example with replacement grips would have negligleable collector value. The term "refinished" can encompass anything from overbuffed and dip blued garbage to an expert restoration. In my opinion, if you are looking for a collector gun/investment this is not it. If you just love early lugers and must have one, maybe this is a good deal. KFS |
